About me.
I’m a computer geek, a music geek, and an amature photographer. This blog is mostly about the latter, though it’s ultimately about me, my friends, and my family. I’ve grown up around computers — my dad built one before I was born, and we’ve always had at least one around. Often we had two: a newer one and an old one. Always built from parts, never bought as a whole system. It’s a passion. I doubt I’ll ever buy a pre-built system that’s not a laptop. Building and upgrading the computer was one of my favorite things to do with my dad. I still enjoy talking computers and tech with him, and my brother. I graduated with a Electrical Engineering degree, and currently am putting to use as a BIOS (software) engineer for Dell. I love my job.
I’ve grown up around a variety of music — oldies, rock, country — and then I started playing tuba, then bass guitar. I enjoy playing music, but unfortunately my skill has waned as I’ve stopped playing. Playing bass in jazz band in high school and college has been one of the more enjoyable things I’ve done, and it’s been a lot of fun. With luck I’ll one day play again on a regular basis. For now, I use photography as my creative outlet.
Throughout my life I’ve enjoyed taking pictures, it’s only gotten worse since I got a digital camera. In order, I’ve owned a Powershot S10, S200, Panasonic TZ3 as point & shoot cameras. I bought the TZ3 in April ‘07, which is unfortunate because I bought my first DSLR, a Nikon D40x in August that same year. I had been tempted by them before, but since I’d never had my hands on one, I was able to push it off as something I didn’t really want. Enter Scott, my brother-in-law, and photographer. I used his camera to take pictures of him and my sister at their wedding, and I was hooked. I recently purchased a Nikon D90, so I can use lenses like the 35mm f/2, and 50mm f/1.4 — I enjoy low light photography. My current plan is not not buy a new camera for a while — I mainly bought a D90 so I can use the some-what older and cheaper lenses that the D40x can’t autofocus. That, plus some improvements to the sensor and such. Add in the fact that I have a buyer for my old camera, and it makes it hard to resist the temptation.
